Welcome to Sapphire

This is the Sapphire Template created for Textpattern for the 2006 Textplates competition. The graphics and TXP coding were done by Kevin Potts, with icons from graphicPUSH.

Sapphire is meant to be a near-drop in replacement for Textpattern’s default installation, and requires no adjustments to sections or categories (leaving the semantic structure up to the admin), no plug-ins for functionality and only a few minor edits to the site preferences. All of this is documented in the readme.txt file that comes with the .zip archive.

This demo installation serves three purposes. It provides a real-life Textpattern version of Sapphire, so users can see the template in action. It also provides a central location for information regarding Sapphire, especially the latest bug fixes and access to the most recent .zip file. And lastly, it provides a testing ground, where visitors are welcome to try and break the site any way they can in whatever browser they can.

Supported Browsers

This site has been rigorously tested in Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer for Windows. There are some minor display issues in IE 5 and 5.5, but not enough to hack the CSS for lengthy workarounds.

Features and Limitations

Sapphire is meant to overwrite the existing template in TXP’s default installation. The graphics and color schemes are fairly well integrated into the supplied graphics, so it is not a template easily customized beyond basic font styling. It is designed to be a wholesale, set-it-and-forget-it replacement.

  • All font sizes are defined in em, for more accessible text resizing in IE6.
  • Styling is provided for the following block-level elements: h2, h3, h4, p, ul, ol, dl, code and blockquote.
  • Content comes before sidebar.
  • Search results page is pre-formatted.
  • More stuff as I think of it.
